Byzantine helmets reproduced according to iconographic sources, these are 10th century helmets of clear Roman derivation without paragnatides, forged from a single piece of steel with a slightly rounded but conical cap. Helmets that have bands behind the nape, called "pterygias" applied on the back of the helmet to protect the neck while ensuring a certain freedom of movement, composed of simple leather strips or reinforced with metal plates, bands that hang down to cover the neck, going down to the shoulders.
